Time is Running Out: A Tom King Prequel

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I’m tired of being tired.

I’m tired of being hungry.

I’m also busy. So my running has suffered.

<————————–(Note my milage)

That being said, it’s not all bad.

(New PR)————————–>

My point is that I’ve been busy, which isn’t all bad, but it does make it hard to get motivated to fit in running. I started working on an awesome project for a non-profit. Which is great and I’m very motivated to help them and want to do everything for them, and that takes up a lot of time. . Multiply that by 3 for my job 2-3 days a week  at 4:30 am. Add normal around the house tasks. Plus one doggie. And a recently busy social life (side note: post title=tribute to my recent Muse show, also went to a Rodrigo Y Gabriela show, want go to The National show) and multiply everything by February and I’m exhausted.

One reassuring fact is that I’m not alone. Both Melanie and Amy have felt the “winter blues” or whatever you wish to call this. So I’m not alone, which is good. We are all working to get back into the swing of things because we all have some races coming up. And I know we will, because we love running and it’s important to us.

So in summary:

(1 Non-profit project * (3)4am shift (crazy sleep schedule + crazy eating schedule) + Some Household chores + 1 Doggie + 1 Social Life) * February = Hard to find time to run.

Maybe it’s winter blues, but, as I said on Saturday, I call it “Tapering for the Tom King Half-Marathon” Which, as noted above, worked.

For Those About to Rock (We Solute You)

Lots of people from blogs I read have their races this weekend in St. Louis and Boston, so I want to with them good luck!

I’m in the middle of my taper right now, with a week to go until the CMM. I’m excited! Compared to the Battlefield marathon, this one is a big experience with crowds and bands; it should be a good time.

I completed my last big week of training this past Saturday with 46 miles and a 20 mile run. The run went great. I did 4 with Melanie at a relaxed pace and then 16 straight. It was nice to catch up and then push myself to do the 16 straight. Mostly, I didn’t want to do 3 out and backs to get to 20 miles. I was tired in the middle, but finished strong. My pace was around 9:15, and that included the relaxed 4 miles. So I think I’m in great shape for the marathon.

I’ve been taking it easy this week, because my left calf is a little sore. I’m not worried, just want to rest it.

Also, I want to get a shout out to my fellow designer-runners that I hung out with this week. Great to catch up!

Long time since a post, but that’s because I’m in my taper and only ran some nice small runs last week. They were nice, a bit cold for a few though. I decided to run w/my short sleeve shirt on Monday last week, and I was bit chilly the whole run.. probably because it was in the 40s :-)   The rest of the week I either wore some old long sleeve running shirts I had or waited until it warmed up. Either case, it was nice weather and I just enjoyed the runs and a few time brought some music.

And now we’re at marathon week! Only 2 jogs and a walk this week to keep loose, then Saturday’s the big day. I’m going to have a training wrap-up post either tomorrow or later in the week after I finish my last jog, then it’s marathon time!

Training Week 14, Days 54, 55

Had two nice runs to finish out my week. My long run this week was only 9 miles, and I ran it at an average pace. I was running fairly fast through the middle, but slowed my pace down as to not overdo it in the last few weeks. My other 5 mile run was nothing special, just a nice run. Now on to week 15 of taking it easy and then marathon week!

Training Week 14, Days 52, 53

Well, I did my good deed for the week. On my run on Monday, I had a companion for the last quarter mile or so. As I am running down the street leading into the final loop on the path near my place, I noticed a little dog ahead of me. As I approached, he decided that he wanted to run as well. I figured that he would run a bit and then turn around and run back home. He didn’t. He ran the last leg with me, sometimes running out in the street. Well, I finished and he was still there, so I called him over and checked the tag. Of course, no address, but it did have 2 phone numbers and I learned his name is Weezie.

First, since i didn’t have a phone on me, I tried to take him back to where i found him to see if he’d go home. Well, that didn’t work because he just sniffed around at every house. So then he followed me back to my place and I called the first number, no answer. I called the second and got the owners mom, who lives in Memphis. She gives me the address and i walk Weezie home. Apparently, he has found a way out of the backyard, as this was the second call in 2 weeks she’s received. I got Weezie home safe, and tied him in the backyard (is that so hard to do??). I hope that they figure out a way to keep him back there, because he was a cute and friendly dog.

On the running side, my runs have been good. I think my body wants to make up time since my 20 mile run was slow though, as both of my runs have been on the fast side. I was really stiff after my 8 mile run yesterday! But it’s okay, because I’m in the “taper” and my runs are only going to get shorter as I rest up for the marathon!
